I got a lot of constructive feedback from my last (Beta) design for my website. This time I hope I've addressed some of the problems.
http://www.donutey.com/
http://www.donutey.com/guides.php
http://www.donutey.com/buildcomputer.php
Note: Some links may not work, especially those in the right hand links column
Features (~brag lol)
- PHP based, all the menus etc can be edited from one page.
- CSS, all formatting stays the same from page to page, centralized editing.
- Small(ish) file size less than 16k for most pages.
- Lighter color scheme, for easier readability
- Simpler interface for navigation (still working on this somewhat)
- Most importantly, it takes a lot less time to maintain/ use, so I can focus on the content.

Updates Before Redesign
Most of this is irrelevant since the redesign, however, some things are still pertinent, such as updates and new pages.
Update: Site Version 1.57.15
Cleaned up the guides section a lot, and updated it with a beta of a new section. (buildcomputer7.htm) see below for finals disclaimer.
Update: Site Version 1.56.14
I've finished the template for the new site version 2.0 (Design 2), however, the colors may change. TemplateTest.htm Now I have to get into the tedious business of making it more css-ey, right now the site theme, and link bars are universally changeable. As you may have noticed this site is a lot about the learning experience for me, however, in the near future look for a Part 7 of the build your own computer guide, a slow expansion of the chipset guide, an overclocking guide for ATI cards, more specifically for the 9600XT, new talk, and some other stuff I've written but not posted online.
.15 -- All this stuff is pretty much on hold, see the finals disclaimer here. I fixed some minor link issues and did a normal weblog/news/daily fool update. A couple small projects for me this weekend: Mobile Version of Daily Fool and more work on CSS (though it won't be noticeable). Peace.
Update: Site Version 1.55.14
One of the big unfortunates of my new grand ol' plan, is that all of my teachers decided to dump on the homework, so right now it's on hold. I updated two of the most recent guides, did a normal main page update, and added two new Blog posts. I will soon be posting an overclocking guide for the 9600XT, new talk, and some other stuff I've written but that's not posted online. Enjoy.
Update: Site Version 1.54.14
Change is good, so I've rearranged the main page, I got rid of the "Top Searches" box, because you could just click the link to yahoo and get the same stuff. In it's place is an automatically updated news feed, tell me what you think. I should have some new conversations tomorrow (10/23/05) Thanks.
I added "JewUnitWiggas" link which is the best fake Jewish parody rap group EVER!!! So you should join it (and vote) or die. (just kidding) Also, changed background on mainpage (for divs) to Hex{20,20,20} for consistancy.
I'm also planning out a new version of the site (Version 2.0) that will include a better weblog, better compatibility with certain browsers, and hopefully load faster also. With this I'm be moving from using mostly computer generated code, to a more custom css design, and less bloating. ( And, it buffs out those dings in your car.) Along with that, I'll be adding Google Adsense at some later date, which should add content to the site. I have a lot of work to do, including making new logos/buttons, making a better blog section, and the enormous task of moving to a more complete css solution. Peace.
Update: Site Version 1.53.13
New Weblog, Talk, and Guide. Cleaned up some stuff including news section. The school section is up and kicking, though still beta testing. I also got rid of PHPNuke because no one is using it, and it was messing with how I publish the site. :p I also trimmed down the forum to make it seem less complicated. Enjoy!
.14 - Fixed some minor formatting errors and added a beta FriHost webring page.
Update: Site Version 1.52.12
Sorry have not updated... I have been kind of sick, and school has started to bog down. Added a new weblog, and implemented the new school section. Soon a new guide, cause I don't have a whole lot going on this weekend.
Update: Site Version 1.51.10
Yup it's official I've changed the font... lol... (11/5/05 -- Changed back... lol) As always when the week end I update A LOT... expect more tomorrow... so far updated main page and changed some secondary pages to the new format, if I'm feeling adventurous I'll clean up the guides section... *shiver*
Enjoy!
.11 - Cleaned up the guides section, added a guide, and I am looking into a more completed css setup. (Right now all it does is fix the fonts and background) Hopefully it will save time on my part and help keep the whole site with the same style.
Update: Site Version 1.50.10
Fixed some issues, did a normal update. I'm converting all main pages to the new style. This is the final style!! Really!! lol... (EDIT: 10/22/05 Well, I can't stop tinkering, so except new designs) Still getting rid of all the text boxes... However, all new text areas are this background color, the site design colors or Hex{24,24,24} which is kind of a light black/dark brown. I still have Linkage, Product, Photos, this page, several guides and various minor pages. I'm looking for someone to help me maintain the site!!! Thanks. kcas88@gmail.com
Update: Site Version 1.49.09
Reduced load times on main page at request. Will be implementing all over soon. Daily fool added. Enjoy!
Update: Site Version 1.48.08
Index now more search page friendly. Added Buildcomputer4.htm article.. and site has now been indexed by google and msn. woo! Added a new classifieds section... tell me what you think. Thanks.
1.48.09 No text boxes on homepage, and all new pages hereforth (I'll be fixing old pages soon) This fixes lots of browser problems. This page has been fixed also! :)
Update: Site Version 1.47.07 August 22nd 2005
Hey! I switched hosts, and this is a lot better. Ten times the bandwidth... twice the space, heck yea! Added a new very professional PHPBB2 forum and PHP-Nuke (EDIT: 10/22/05 PHP Nuke was dumped due to lack of use and duplication) both you'll have to see to believe. Both open source goodness, both bleeding edge. Go ahead... your monitor won't be able to handle it. (Lol, jk, but really it won't...) Peace.
Update: Site Version 1.46.05 August 13th 2005
Testing solutions to the mentioned browser problems, hopefully I should have them up in a few days. Added a new blog post, new conversations, and guide. I've been modifying the main page for a more professional feel, with the news section. Enjoy!
-1.46.06 Found solution to the text box problem by using layers, and have currently implemented on the most affected pages. This is a workaround, still working on a true solution. Only primary links will be getting "the treatment." Enjoy!
Update: Site Version 1.45.04
Corrected several title errors. Added Eagle Scout section and blog post. Working on a solution for the errors in loading and more seriously the text box problem in certain browsers.
- 1.45.05 - Have a preliminary fix to the word art not loading correctly, add ~2sec to load times, but I believe it is worth it. The modified main bar is on the homepage. An ultra-modded main bar based on the Anandtech main bar is on the web Weblog for testing. (EDIT: (10/22/05) Load times way too long, so I've gotten rid of it)
Update: Site Version 1.44.03
Check out the drastically expanded PhotoLab section. Also new link to Wiggs site, and new Weblog posts. Fixed some broken links. I have been improving the forum design. Removed counter, to go with a tracker link. Trying to improve HTML compatibility, some pages don't load correctly in Firefox/Opera/Netscape/Mozilla. Tested the site with Internet Explorer 7 Beta 1, and found it to work perfectly.
Update: Site Version 1.43.02
The version change from 1.43 to version 1.43.02 involved the correction of several hyperlink errors, image loading errors, and simple text errors. It also marked changing to the new five decimal site version system. The version 1.43.00 is implied in 1.43, version 1.43.01 was never published. Design 1 offers an improved intuitive interface, however longer load times for dialup, for a dialup homepage go here.
Earlier versions were announced in the forum, these were lost when the server hard drive crashed.
Donutey, since July 2005
